Snow at last!!.... A Milford Morning at the studio,... 9 degrees! (-12c)

It's here,  the winter wonderland.... Just not too much... and please no more ice storms.

Should be a White Christmas in Pa, although might be melting, since the temps will be in the 40's!

Then I am off to see family  

 Knowles/Manning/Yearwoods/Fosters/and friends in the islands.  (Barbados,   sorry)..... Will be posting fotos later. Mom and sister and lots of cousins, family friends will also be having a reunion. Should be fun.

Wedding Movies... thank you

The year is almost over and  it has been full of change.

Daughter graduated  college, and perhaps the biggest change....

After so many years in New York, I moved my editing studio to Milford, Pa.

A wonderful town, where I now have a rather expansive place to edit from and transfer videos to dvd.

However, I am still booking many weddings in New York and CT, it just means a bit more driving.

We put together this compilation of wedding highlights for the blog.

The interview sections were actually  completed the day before the wedding, so we had clean audio. The videos really become very personal and powerful.

Let me know if you are interested in this feature. I have a few scheduled for 2009 already.

Outdoor swim in December!!...Only in Florida

Yes, escaped from the Pennsylvania cold for a few days to Kissimmee, Florida.

For the locals, it's cold, but for an outdoor swim, almost perfect weather.

Mornings were cold, but by lunchtime we were in the mid 70's.

However, back to Milford on Saturday. A few more weddings left to edit for the holidays!!

Jaclyn & Dan....Nov 8 2008

Jaclyn and Dan celebrated twice this year.

Phillie fans to the core, when I called them just before the wedding day, Jaclyn could barely hear me, she and Dan were in the parade during the World Series .... Congratulations to the Philadelphia Phillies.

So onto their wedding day. Just warm enough to capture some outside fotos without getting too cold. We had alot of fun.

Wow, what a day...

Starting off at the bride's house in Staten Island, we then could have almost walked over to the church a few blocks away.

The foto session took us to the wonderful location of Snug Harbor  where we were able to blend the images of the location with the bridal party, and then onto Addison Park, a new catering facility.

My New Home...MILFORD, Pa.

My new studio in Milford, Pa

What a wonderful town, nestled in the valley of north east Pa. It has always been a dream of mine to open my business here. 

Ten years ago, when my wife and I bought property in this area of Pa, we came across Milford.

Now it has happened and I am here!!....located in the Old Lumberyard shops, once a working mill, these buildings have been beautifully restored, home now to a range of small businesses, including mine.

Just a word of thanks to all my clients in the New York area. Don't forget me, it's not that far, but thank you all for your patronage over the years.. 

 

The great state of New York has been my only home ever since I arrived on these shores, 28 years ago, so thank you... 

Indeed, within my first week here, (Milford),  Cortney M. and her Mom visited me from Staten Island, NY and booked me for a wedding in November. A few days later, Jessica and her fiancee came from Greenwich, Ct to see me.. Thank you both.

In my next post I shall link some of my wonderful neighbors.

This past weekend, we had a wonderful wedding, Staten Island and New Jersey, so we we are still very much part of the tristate area weddings. Will post video on  this one soon

Florida in August, are your crazy?

Well, every couple of years, I take time out to network with fellow videographers who fly in from all over the world... The Phillipines, Europe, the States, the Caribbean...to attend Weva conferences.

It is great to watch and listen .... There is always a golden nugget to keep.

This years show gave me one such person.... For those in the know....I  use Final Cut to edit my videos and we all know that it is a great program.

I had never heard of Larry Jordan....he has been a film documentarian for many years and over the  past couple of years  has begun to market himself as, teacher, trainer, final cut afficionado.

All those are true...

Atternding a seminar,  hosted by Jordan is a must....

Witty, knowledegable and filled with tips/tricks, his seminar was the best.

To MOVE CLIPS in FCP

1. Make timeline active.

2. Select clip/clips

3. Hold SHIFT X key... this cuts the clip/clips to virtual clipboard and ripple deletes the gap.

4. Position playhead to new point on timeline... now for the magic..

5. Hold SHIFT V key... this pastes clip/clips to new position... pushing all other clips to the right...  

6. Pretty cool...

Pure Magic...by Kathryn Knowles

A hundred years ago, taking a simple picture was an arduous task. It was said that the reason people in the picture looked so miserable was because it took so long to capture a single image. Nowadays, the click of a camera's shutter and the limited amount of space a camera takes up in a women's purse is symbolic of new-age technology that has taken our generation by storm and that makes special occasions such as milestone birthdays, graduations and weddings seem like anything but distant memories.

Not only with photography has preserving life's special moments improved, but with videography as well. In a world where people often find themselves working in cold, unfamiliar environments that disable them from truly reflecting the person they are, a passion for re-creating what is considered by many the most important day of their lives is beautiful. 

Video is the ability to not only literally record life's occurrences, but to be the conduit through which two people can re-embark on the journey of the beginning of their lives together.

Families, close friends, and future generations are also beneficiaries of a talented videographer.

They are allowed to partake in the ceremony that has, for as long as we can remember, joined two people in love. 

A talented videographer will allow his or her passion for capturing the rituals and festivities to be evident in his or her work thereby creating a milestone for those who participated.

Vincent Van Gogh once said, "I dream my painting and then I paint my dream."

For many little girls, the idea of planning their fairytale wedding is a life-long fantasy. They spend every waking hour thinking and developing the best day of their lives. Video enables them to see their wedding day not only as a day where the three tier, chocolate cake was delectable or the rose center pieces spiced up the air with their fragrance but a dream that has been painted into reality but still embodies...."pure magic..."

Graduation 2008 La Salle

Wow, what a week....two grandmothers were able to make it.

My sister, Alison and her husband Steve, came up from Barbados, and were able to bring my mother. Thank you for being with us.

Dick and Julie, were able to bring Connie with them. Thank you both.

Charles and Bryony, who were unable to make the trip from the UK, thank you for your emails, enjoy the clip.

We took a week off from work, and were able to enjoy the couple of days with family.

I was allowed to have have ONE camera and ONE lens! However, I did manage to use a digital voice recorder to capture some audio.

Thank you Kate for being you.. From someone with her Italian heritage, her mom's, to having her Scottish/West Indian heritage, (3 generations of Mannings/Knowles in Barbados), her grandfather would have been very proud.

We are not climbers

We are not walkers

We are not runners

We are video storytellers.... in any format

In this day and age of DV, HDV, DVDs, they are those that still have film... 8mm,  super8 and 16mm out.. Hidden away on reels and in boxes, they are forgottton relics of an age gone by.

Not today..... 10, 000 ft came in.... all to dvd... so today and for days to come the projector is humming away.

Our projectors have five bladed shutters so that you do not get the flicker from 24fps(film)  to 30fps(video). The video is captured directly into my mac... no loss in quality!

Wedding Demo Highlights

Thank you brides for being part of all my weddings.

Our wedding demo highlights a selection of weddings over the past year.

The audio "soundbites"  were taken from interviews scheduled the day before their wedding and we incorporated them into the final production. A bit more work but the audio "sound bites" really personalizes a wedding video. We have had some tremendous feedback on this.

Communions, Anniversaries, Graduations

April is a month filled with activity. 

Communions... We have been videotaping communion services at St Catherine of Siena in Riverside, Ct for many years and this note is to thank Barbara Glynn for all her help. Her team certainly makes my job so much easier. Barbara will be retiring in June, so we wish her well and thanks again.

Anniversaries.

My anniversary is in April... April 26..... and for the first time, my wife and I  returned  to the Rye Golf Club for dinner. We were married there, a few years ago .... let's see... our daughter graduates college in two weeks!

The restaurant is now operated by the city of Rye, so if any of you are looking for a pleasant, relaxing place to have lunch/dinner.. The Rye Golf Club is now open to the public.

Graduations...

How quickly four  years have passed.  Our daughter will be graduating in a couple of weeks  from La Salle and my mom, sister and her husband will be visiting us from the islands.... (Barbados.. my birthplace....3 generations ago, my ancestors from Scotland and Ireland landed there and now here I am in New York, there's a book here somewhere!)
